Collin County Jail Ministry
“Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.” Hebrews 13:3
Collin County Jail Ministries is a missional organization at First Baptist Church of McKinney. There are three areas where this ministry needs support.
All volunteer positions require a background check
Donating Bibles
The Bible is the number one requested book in the Collin County Jail. The Bibles must be soft backed. Used soft back Bibles (any version) are always welcomed. Due to the nature of the facility, there is a large turn over in population, so a lot of Bibles are given out during the year. During December the population will be between 800 and 900. Dec. 9-10-11 inmates will be visited and offered a new Bible as a Christmas gift. The average cost per Bible is $2.50 regular print, $3.45 for larger print. Cost per case is $60 for regular print and $72 for large print. Large print is the most requested. Please send funds to:
International Bible Society
% Collin County Detention Facility
1820 Jet Stream Drive
Colorado Springs, CO 80921
If you are led to participate, please let Chaplain Skip Pilgrim know at wpilgrim@collincountytx.gov, so he can acknowledge your gift.
He orders from the International Bible Society using the funds submitted directly to them; no money passes through the Chaplain's hands.
Write Way Ministry
Volunteers needed to grade Bible studies done by the inmates. Contact Grace Hill at graced@cebridge.com or 214-336-6647.
“Angel Tree year round”
Volunteers needed to sponsor the family of an inmate who lives in the McKinney area and follow through with them for the year. This includes Christmas shopping, Easter baskets, birthday cards, summer camp for children 7 to 16 years old, Thanksgiving baskets, etc.
NOTE: The sponsor does not have to be financially responsible for all these things (i.e., gifts, baskets, camping supplies, etc.) but can contribute some items as they are able. The sponsor will work together with the other members of this ministry to get these things done.
